Jemma James - Adult Nurse Student - Second Year
"Skills4Practice is an incredible site with a wealth of information at your fingertips whenever and wherever you need it. I've used it a lot both in university and on placement. If you have an internet connection you have a tutor in your pocket which is fantastic. If I want to recap a procedure, learn a new one or check my skill level to ensure best practice I can do so quickly and easily. The videos are well -produced, clear and use simple language which really helps you get to grips with the more complicated techniques and procedures. Being able to replay it as many times as you need is great for embedding something in your mind. The website developers are also very keen to involve students wherever possible which I love. It brings it to life more and means that you see content that is relevant and current. I think this is a great resource not only for students but for qualified healthcare professionals. I will really miss it once I graduate!".
Emillie Miller - Adult Nurse Student - First Year
As a " first year nursing student, I have found that the skills website a fantastic resource. It has substantially aided my learning in providing a step-by-step guide to relevant clinical skills, and in turn giving me the confidence to carry out these tasks in practice. It is simple enough to understand; yet includes appropriate detail to fully understand each skill. The skills for practice website is both simple to find and simple to use. Each video very clearly outlines the individual procedures through both visual and audio methods, which I believe is crucial to its success, as often it is difficult to perform certain practical skills without having a visual aid and an explanation. The skills have been well thought out and are presented and performed professionally. This website further enhances learning because it is accessible at any time, from anywhere, ensuring that students are constantly informed and are able to check if they have any doubt whilst in practice about any of the procedures. This is also particularly useful as it allows students to practice and develop their techniques, in preparation for the OSCE examination, which is undertaken months after the teaching sessions. I believe that overall, this will substantially improve performance on the day of the exam as it supports revision and students are able to watch the video multiple times, which could in turn have a positive effect in terms of reducing anxieties and confirming any uncertainties.
Overall, I think the team have done an exceptional job in producing a sound resource, which is backed-up by clinical evidence and particularly relevant to practice. It is innovative and uses technology to its full potential in order to provide learning opportunities. I speak on behalf of many other students who frequently use this website and who have also had extremely positive experiences".
Lilian Topacho - Adult Nurse Student - Third Year
" The skills for practice website is an excellent innovation that enhances student learning. The pages are informative, educational, and helped me to brush up on my clinical skills. I particularly like the site, because I can refer back to it when I am not sure of procedures, such as, applying anti-embolism stockings, applying the non-rebreathe oxygen mask, infection control, wound care, vital observations, basic life support, moving and handling, injection technique, or even removal of clips and sutures. Some students learn through visual demonstrations and I am one of them. It is also convenient as it can be accessed anywhere as long as you are enrolled on the programme. The site explains procedures step-by-step, which makes it easier to follow and remember. Most of the practical skills are what a student will encounter on a ward, or any clinical setting. Therefore, learning and acquainting oneself with these clinical skills is important as it gives confidence to perform these competencies in real life scenarios.
Well done to all the tutors who contributed to this successful website and I only hope that more innovation can emerge which may enhance student learning".

Started using the skills for practice website as soon as I had heard about it, the offer of 24/7 quality teaching sounded too good to be true. Upon seeing and hearing the website for myself, I found it suited my learning needs with interactive choices as I could watch, pause, write and continue to have the most solid foundation to my learning that is achievable. As " I first-year student nurse, I had found the skills website enticing, easy to use and adaptable for life as a student nurse. I could access the website from any device and felt reassured knowing that I always had the dedicated clinical skills team at my fingertips. Before my OSCE practical exam, I used the skills website every day, and with each session, my confidence grew knowing that this outstanding innovative material is there just for me. I passed my Practical exam only with the help of the skills for practice website, and now with new students starting the University, I make every effort to reach out to them and make sure they know about the skills website. It doesn’t stop there, since starting placement at the hospital I use the skills website to access a wide range of gold standard materials I can apply in practice and towards my long life learning journey.
